David Humphrey, who has lived in the Los Angeles area for over thirty years, was born in Mexico City when his geologist father was stationed there as an advisor to PEMEX, the Mexican nationalized oil industry. His early education took place in Mexico City and then in Madrid, Spain. The family eventually settled in the United States and David attended schools in Connecticut, Illinois and Colorado. In due time he selected Gemology as his field of expertise. For the past 22 years David Humphrey has dedicated his efforts in the gem and jewelry business. After graduating from the Gemological Institute of America in 1980, David worked at the world renowned institute until 1982 when he chose to further his career as a supplier of fine gems to the trade. As a gemologist and buyer David has traveled extensively through Asia and Europe in his search for fine gemstones.

Today David is the President of Gallery of Rare Jewels in Pacific Palisades, California. Through the years David expanded his areas of expertise to include fine art and antique objects of distinction from all corners of the world and his gallery reflects his wide ranging taste in fine jewels and objects of distinction. In addition David has become well known as an award-winning jewelry designer, lecturer and author. He has co-authored published papers on the restoration of antique jewelry and has authored a published paper presented before the Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena, California as well as the Santa Fe Symposium on Jewelry Manufacturing Technology entitled “Chinese Jewelry Through the Ages.”

David designed the “Hope Is A Jewel” pendant as a heartfelt response to the catastrophic Tsunami disaster of 2004; joining with the rest of the world in the great outpouring of support for all those afflicted by the tragedy. 100% of the profits from the sales of these jewels will be given to relief efforts for the victims of catastrophic disaster throughout the world. What initially started as a project for the support of the Tsunami victims has now become an ongoing effort of support for those of us who are suffering as a result of catastrophic disaster. The message is clear: “Hope is a jewel in the heart of all humanity.” The inspired design of the pins and pendants artistically conveys this message.
